METAL FRAMES / STRAINLESS STEEL
Art Services Inc. offers three welded metal options for our products: brass, stainless steel, and aluminum. These substrates not only look great within a contemporary context, but offer incredible support for artwork. The strength of welded joins ensures that heavy art objects are properly supported over a long period of time, and the alloys make them more durable in more volatile environments.
If you or your client is interested in creating a custom-colored frame, mount, or pedestal, powder-coated metals are a great option. The powder-coating process holds color extremely well: color is applied electrostatically and cured under heat or with ultraviolet light, which creates a smooth surface without drips or runs that is highly resistant to corrosion, flaking, and scratching.
Please read on below to learn more details about each metal alloy.
Stainless steel is an alloy of iron, carbon, and chromium. The chromium content makes up 10% or more of the alloy by weight, which makes this metal highly resistant to rust. Stainless steel is a great option for humid climates or the outdoors, as it won’t tarnish when subjected to moisture. It is also the strongest substrate that Art Services Inc. offers.
